Gulfaam is a traditional wooden liveaboard designed for travellers who want to explore the Maldives at a relaxed pace. At 21.6 metres long, she is a compact vessel with an intimate atmosphere, particularly well suited to families and small groups of friends. Built back in 1990, Gulfaam represents the truly romantic atmosphere of Maldivian tourism. Her character is rooted in a simple idea: to make the archipelago itself the focus of the journey, with time to discover its reefs, islands and coastal communities.
Life on board Gulfaam is informal and sociable. Guests can spend time in the indoor lounge with its television, music system and DVD player, browse the library, or settle into the outdoor dining area for freshly prepared meals. The sun deck offers space to relax between excursions, while the bar and open-air seating provide natural gathering places after a day on the water.
With a cruising speed of around eight knots, Gulfaam is suited to unhurried island-hopping journeys rather than rushing from one destination to the next. A crew of four, including the captain and chef, looks after the voyage.
Gulfaam is particularly popular for cruising and surfing trips, but the programme can also include snorkelling, diving on request, night fishing, island visits and beach barbecues on deserted islands. A dinghy with an outboard engine supports excursions away from the main vessel. Depending on the itinerary and guests’ interests, the journey can combine time on coral reefs with visits to local communities and quieter stretches of the archipelago. The emphasis is on flexibility and discovery, making Gulfaam a practical choice for travellers who value authentic experiences and shared adventures.
Accommodation onboard Gulfaam is arranged across five cabins, with bunk-bed configurations and a capacity of up to ten guests. Four cabins have en-suite bathrooms, while the fifth shares a separate toilet and shower. Facilities include air conditioning, a soundproof generator and a water desalination system. Navigation and safety equipment includes GPS/chartplotter, VHF radio, binoculars, life jackets, life buoys, fire extinguishers and a first-aid kit.
The Maldivian Charter Club recommends Gulfaam for guests seeking a smaller, traditional boat with a friendly atmosphere and a flexible itinerary. This elegant blue-white marine creature offers a straightforward way to experience the Maldives from the water – with the freedom to shape each day around the sea, the islands and the activities that matter most.
The yacht’s description is subject to change, so if any features or services are particularly important to you, please confirm them at the time of booking.
